Sri Lanka announce squad for Tri-Series in Pakistan

Date:

Sri Lanka have named a 16-member squad led by Kusal Mendis for the one-day international tri-series in Pakistan beginning on October 18, with opening batsman Pathum Nissanka’s travel subject to medical clearance.

The tournament, which also features England, forms part of Sri Lanka’s preparations for the 2027 World Cup as they look to settle their core combination.

Nissanka was included in the squad announced by Sri Lanka Cricket’s selection committee but will travel with the team only if declared medically fit.

Sri Lanka will switch to the 50-over format after a three-match Twenty20 international series against hosts Pakistan.

The squad combines experienced internationals with emerging players, with Avishka Fernando, Kamil Mishara and Pavan Rathnayake among the top-order options alongside Mendis and Nissanka.

Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage offer middle-order choices, while former captain Dasun Shanaka and spin-bowling all-rounder Dunith Wellalage provide additional balance.

Maheesh Theekshana and wrist-spinner Sachindu Colombage feature in the spin attack alongside Wellalage.

Dushmantha Chameera, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka and Eshan Malinga make up the pace contingent.
