Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC), challenging the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and seeking the restoration of the province’s elected government.
In a post on X, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the petition had been filed against the Federation of Pakistan and others, seeking the restoration of the people’s representative government in the province.

Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja said the party was approaching the courts to ascertain the whereabouts of K-P Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and determine where he was being held. He said the party would pursue all constitutional and legal options alongside political engagement.
“Speaker Sahib has been arrested at this time. The homes of all our MPAs are under attack. The National Assembly session holds little significance at this point,” Raja said, referring to Wednesday’s National Assembly session.
He questioned the purpose of the session, saying it could result in the passage of a resolution calling for negotiations.
“We are going to court now. Where Sohail Afridi is and where he has been kept is of the utmost importance to us. We are looking into all of this, and we will certainly take all constitutional and legal measures. We will engage at the political level as well as at the legal level,” Raja said.
He added that the party was assessing the situation and taking the developments seriously.

In a separate development, PTI’s K-P media cell alleged that police had abducted Afridi’s lawyer, Bashir Wazir, from outside the Peshawar High Court.
The developments follow the federal government’s decision on October 11 to impose emergency and governor’s rule in K-P, suspending the PTI-led provincial administration.
The government cited deteriorating law and order and alleged shortcomings in the provincial government’s coordination with federal authorities on counterterrorism operations.

The move has intensified tensions between the Centre and the PTI, which has described the measures as an attempt to undermine the province’s electoral mandate. The federal government, however, maintains that the intervention was necessary to address security concerns.
The decision followed reports that Afridi and several members of his cabinet had been taken into preventive custody.
