Asim Azhar returns to Coke Studio with ‘Maheya’, 10 years after ‘Tera Woh Pyar’

Date:

Ten years after beginning his Coke Studio journey with the much-loved Tera Woh Pyar, Asim Azhar is back on the platform with Maheya, a new song that is already winning over fans.

The latest Coke Studio Nu.WAV release sees Azhar team up with Aaryan, with Rovalio on production. The song was written by Azhar, Aaryan and Kumail Abbas, while the music brings together Azhar, Azhar Hussain and Rovalio.

Taking to Instagram to celebrate the release, he shared a line from the song, writing, “maheya tere pyar vich, jindri mai haareya.”

He added, “Exactly 10 years ago, it was ‘tera woh pyar’ today, its ‘maheya’ thank you for always being here. I hope you all love it as much as we loved making it.”

The milestone gives Maheya an added layer of nostalgia for longtime listeners. Azhar first appeared on Coke Studio in 2015 with Hina Ki Khushbu, before returning with Tera Woh Pyar, his now-iconic collaboration with Momina Mustehsan.

A decade later, he is revisiting the platform through Nu.WAV, Coke Studio’s newer space for artists and producers to experiment with their own sounds.

Musically, Maheya leans into longing and heartbreak, with its central refrain capturing the feeling of being completely consumed by love. Azhar’s familiar vocals are paired with Aaryan’s contribution, while Rovalio’s production gives the track a contemporary polish.

The accompanying video takes a distinctly old-school route. Set against a vintage-inspired world, it plays with black-and-white imagery and a fictional 1950s film aesthetic, with Azhar appearing as a playback singer. His styling complements the visual concept, with chic, sophisticated looks that add to the retro mood without making it feel dated.

The response from fans has been just as enthusiastic.

One commenter summed up Azhar’s seemingly effortless ability to turn a release into a social media moment, writing, “Bro wakes up, drops a banger, makes a transition video to it, and goes back to sleep.”

Azhar replied simply: “Guilty as charged.”

Other fans echoed the sentiment, with listeners saying the track had already landed firmly on repeat.

Maheya also arrives at a particularly busy point in Azhar’s career.

Earlier this year, his collaboration Aarzu made waves internationally, reaching No 2 on the Official Asian Music Chart and No 8 on Billboard’s global chart.

Just last month, Azhar’s fans marked his 13th year in the music industry by giving back to children at SOS Village, a gesture the singer warmly acknowledged.

With Maheya, Azhar appears to be marking another personal milestone — one that connects where his Coke Studio story began with where his music is headed next.
